Secrets of Generations

The secrets of past generations are fast disappearing as global culture moves
ever further from its traditional roots. Even those few secrets currently being passed
through the generations ba an ever dwindling number of families, are manipulated
by a “modern” way of thinking. We, as part of modern society are steadily losing the
knowledge of our forefathers.

Certain aspects of  Tattoo culture contradict institutionalisation by their very design,
certainly never meant for formalisation or regulation by any external parties.
The traditions are in themselves a formalisation and any regulations are at the family`s
discretion. Each single entity unique key to a corresponding door.

Uniting what is left of the planets traditional tattoo cultures still surviving today,
combining the lessons and secrets from all corners of the globe while preserving the
individuality of each facet will ensure the survival of each culture as a whole,
while at the same time providing a master key for all those unique doors.
One can only imagine the learning curves we will witness and the innovations that
most serely result when access to a “never before conceived” pool of wisdom dating back
millennia becomes accessible to anyone with the passion to learn.

The Malofie International Foundation was formed on the basis of this need.
The number of people practising traditional tattoo continues to diminish as families scatter.
Bloodlines are diluted and those with can teach have access to less and less students.
The simple act of preserving our heritage gives rise to endless possibility not the
least of which is connecting those who have the passion to learn with those who have the
knowledge to teach.

Paulo Suluape Convention in Sydney, Australien

Tomasi Suluape und sein Vater Petelo Suluape haben wieder Großes vor…

Sein Können in Planung und Organisation hat Tomasi S. bekanntlich bereits mit der 3-ten Samoan Tattoo Convention im Jahr 2009 der Tatau Familie Suluape in Apia unter Beweis stellen können.

Sein Vater, Petelo Suluape, hatte ihn darum gebeten diese Tattoo Convention zu Ehren des 10 jährigen Todestages von Paulo Suluape zu veranstalten.  Sie wurde von den bekannten Größen als rießen Erfolg anerkannt!

Nun gibt es neue Wege, neue Herausforderung die Vater und Sohn Suluape miteinander begehen werden.
Geplant und bereits in Organisation ist die Paulo Suluape Convention welche in Sydney, Australien startet
und in regelmäßigen Abständen in einem anderen Land stattfinden wird.

Diese wunderbare Nachricht ist der Grund unsere (admin) Sommerpause zu beenden
um euch treu gewordenen Besucher und Leser teilhaben zu lassen.

Tomasi Suluape and his father Petelo Suluape plan on an big level again…

His skill in planning and organisation proved Tomasi S. as everybody knows,
already with the third Samoan tattoo Convention in the year 2009 of the Tatau Family Suluape in Apia.

His father, Petelo Suluape, had asked him to organise this tattoo Convention in honour of the 10-year-old day of death of Paulo Suluape. It was recognised by the known dimensions as a very large success!

Now there are new ways, new challenges – father and son Suluape will commit with each other.
Planned and already in organisation is the Paulo Suluape Convention wich will start in Sydney, Australia
and at regular intervals will take place in other countrys.

This miraculous news is the reason to finish our (admin) summer break
to let you know as now faithfull visitors and reader.

zur Tattoo Convention in Frankfurt 2010 

2010 stand der Event in der Messehalle unter dem Motto »Polynesien und Südsee«, 

Dabei war als »Very Special Guest« der samoanische Tattoo Veteran Petelo Suluape, der extra aus Australien eingeflogen war und absolut originale Tatau Samoa von Hand anbieten konnte! Gekommen war Petelo auf Einladung von Tomasi S., der dieser uralten Kunst im Freiburger Studio Visavajara nachgeht, wo er sich vor Terminen kaum retten kann.

Tomasi S. also Tomasi Suluape ist der Sohn des Tattoo Veteran Petelo Suluape. Er lebt und arbeitet in Freiburg, im Süden Deutschlands. Er ist oft im Visavajara – Atelier für Piercing, Branding, Bodymodifikation, Tattoo & Performance anzutreffen. 

Father and son – Petelo und Tomasi Suluape haben sich nach der Frankfurter Tattoo Convention zusammen auf den Weg nach Freiburg gemacht wo sie gemeinsam und teilweise – Hand in Hand – im Visavajara weiter gearbeitet haben.

Paulo Suluape Convention der Tatau Familie Suluape

Eine starke Kraft in der samoanischen Kultur ist die Kunst des Tätowierens.

Christliche Seelenfänger versuchten lange diese Tradition zu unterbinden. Die Missionare hatten jedoch keine Chance den diese alte kulturelle Tradition wurde im Geheimen am Leben erhalten und an die nächsten Generationen weitergegeben.

Einer dieser Männer – der die Tradition des Tätowierens am Leben erhielt – war der Vater von Petelo und Paulo Suluape. Diesen beiden Tufuga ta Tatau Brüdern ist es zu verdanken dass nicht nur die Tradition weiterlebt sondern dass diese Kultur auch hinaus in die Welt getragen wird.

Su’a Sulu’ape Paulo verstarb bei einem tragischen Unglück.

Su’a Sulu’ape Petelo ist unermüdlich in der Weitergabe des nirgends schriftlich niedergelegten Wissens um die samoanischen Tätowierungen an seinen Sohn Tomasi Suluape.
Auf Grund des ausgeprägten traditionellen Bewusstseins wird wie vor hunderten von Jahren die Tätowierung in gleicher Art und Weise übermittelt.

Sulu’ape Tomasi lebt und arbeitet in Freiburg, im Süden Deutschlands.
Er ist oft im Visavajara – Atelier für Piercing, Branding, Bodymodifikation, Tattoo & Performance anzutreffen.

Die enge Verbundenheit zu seiner Familie lässt ihn jedoch viel auf Reisen gehen und unter anderem plante er auch die 3te Samoan Tattoo Convention. Nun konzentriert sich voll und ganz auf die Paulo Suluape Convention. 

Es ist anscheinend einiges geplant – man darf gespannt sein und sich natürlich (vor)- freuen… )
